Striped Bass Win for Team Atlas
Ken Zwirko Named Angler of the Year
by Michael Caruso
Capt. Ken Zwirko of Team Bunker Down, sponsored by Atlas Reels, has been named the American Striper Association's Striped Bass Challenge Angler of the Year. Zwirko, from Union, and his crew finished the tournament series with a six-bass total of 226.65 pounds, beating second-place finisher Team Amazing Grace of Middletown, VA, by 27 pounds. The winners were named after the conclusion of the Million Dollar Rockfish Challenge in Virginia Beach, VA, which was delayed due to a foot of snow in Virginia Beach from the same storm that dumped 30 inches or more in some parts of New Jersey.
Also earning honors from the Team Bunker Down crew was Donna Speaks of Groton, CT, who was named Lady Angler of the Year. Junior Angler of the Year honors went to Ann Unsworth, who fishes with Team Mod Squad out of Petersburg, NJ. The Million Dollar Rockfish Challenge was won by the Devious, which finished with 80.65 pounds. Second place went to The Handyman, which put 73.85 pounds on the scale and edged the third-place team, Team Right Hook, by 1 pound.
